The Team went on a two-day retreat, accompanied by a professional “Life Coach,” hired to be their neutral third party facilitator. A wide range of issues were put on the table; including how are we going to compensate each other, what does each bring to the table, what about time off, who will be the lead in financial, legal, marketing, hiring/firing or branding issues, who will be the lead broker on this development and that one, on and on. What was so outstanding about this retreat was they were able to discuss theses issues plus so-called white elephant issues: do we come across credible, some more than others, why or why not, do we have the same value system, do we respect others around us the same way, what do we do if we disagree…again this was an invaluable exercise for us to all go through prior to merging.
The mood was lightened with exercises, such as a word association game: The Coach would throw out a word, like “Integrity” or “Respect” and each would share feelings, defining what that word meant to him or her.
What they discovered during this process is that each had unique personalities, talents and skill sets that fit together surprisingly well! They also had such strong respect and admiration for one another, that by the end of the session, the Life Coach commented that she had never met four people who were so “in sync!”
To this day, the team thrives in a spirit of fun and fairness, bound together by true camaraderie and solid core values. Does this sound too good to be true? Only by getting acquainted with Steve, Ann, Dena and Suzanne can one realize how a true team dynamic can lead to astronomical success and a happy life!
