This week Park City School District is on Spring Break, and there’s no better town in the world to be in. Thousands of students from all over the country pay big bucks to come here during their week of respite, imbuing our little mountain town with a feeling of freedom and celebration. We surveyed our office family and compiled a list of our top favorite spring break activities, many of which are often overlooked by locals. If you’re considering heading south this week, we encourage you to check out our list and see if it inspires a staycation instead.
- Get Fat (tires) – Fat tire biking during the mud season has become a mania in Park City! The bikes are almost like mixing a mountain bike with a monster truck, with the oversized tires allowing the rider to cruise across packed-down snowy trails. Make sure you review the trail map before you head out, and we suggest rides at Round Valley, Willow Creek, Historic Rail Trail, or Glenwild. If you’d like to “try before you buy,” there are several places around town that rent bikes at very reasonable rates. Try Jan’s or White Pine Touring.
- Tour d’Food – Combine your love for history with your love for great food and you have the basic ingredients of Park City Food Tours. Stroll a guided tour through PC’s historic Main Street, and along the way stop in at some of our most celebrated restaurants to sample their wares. Tour guides are local residents who share a cultural and historic perspective, a taste of several restaurants, beautiful art, and other highlights of Main Street.
- Be Above It All – There’s no better way to take in the magnificence of Park City than from a hot-air balloon, and this is the perfect time of year to do it! Once you’ve reached cruising altitude, you’ll be able to see for miles in every direction. Trips involve flying low enough to see the wildlife, such as mule deer and elk, and high enough to get a view of the Salt Lake Valley over the Wasatch Mountains. An experienced pilot guides you over the Park City area on a ride that’s both thrilling and tranquil. We’ve heard great things about Skywalker Balloon Company, but there are several Park City-based balloonists to choose from. This is an adventure that will make this spring break last in your memory forever.
- Say Ahhh to a Spa – There are several awe-inspiring spas in Park City, but the one we love most is Remèdelocated in the St. Regis Hotel. A day in this sumptuously appointed, pristinely clean spa is everything you dream of. The attendants treat you like royalty and the Estheticians are licensed professionals who pamper you with treatments such as custom massage, hot stone therapy, soaking baths, body wraps, facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures. You deserve this!
We at Chin-MacQuoid-Fleming-Harris love Park City in every season, and hope you’ll join us in relishing this day-by-day turn to spring. Your kids have this week off from school, and we hope you take some time to experience why so many people from all over the world travel here for Spring Break. If you’re lucky enough to live here, we encourage you to stay home this week and create memories that will last a lifetime!
