Park City celebrates July 4 all weekend long

June 30th, 2021 | Park City Community

While the Fourth of July celebration may not look exactly like it has in years past, Park City promises to deliver all the fun we’ve come to expect from our favorite hometown festivities including great music, a float-filled parade and a breathtaking fighter-jet flyover.

Let’s face it: The holiday weekend starts early in a resort town and that means the party starts this TODAY, June 30, with Lash LaRue and the first Grand Valley Bank Community Concert Series at Deer Valley’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Kick off your shoes and kick up your heels to Americana goodness from the heart of Park City. The free show does require an RSVP and starts at 5:30 p.m.

The “sweet but spicy” sounds of Cactus Cola bring their brand of “country rock with a spine” to The Great Lawn at the DeJoria Center on Thursday, July 1, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. as part of its summer concert series, while Newpark Amphitheater hosts its first show since 2019 on Friday, July 2, with the anticipated return of Fat Paw. Formed in Park City in 1993 by singer/songwriter Tim Wray, Fat Paw fires up the crowd with their fusion of rock, country and bluegrass.

In a slight switch-up of this year’s events schedule, Park City will host its annual Independence Day Parade at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 2, at 11 a.m. on Historic Main Street. This year’s parade will award entries is several categories including:

  • Community Spirit
  • Humor & Funk
  • Crowd Engagement/Favorite
  • Youth Award
  • Heritage/Traditions/History
  • Environmental Sustainability

NOTE: Parade attendees are encouraged to take public transportation, as parking is limited and Main Street is closed most of Friday and all of Sunday, July 4. For details, visit parkcity.org.

Finish off your Friday night under the stars at Deer Valley at the Utah Symphony’s Patriotic Pops featuring Capathia Jenkins. Celebrate America with your red, white and blue favorites at the symphony’s annual Patriotic Pops concert at Deer Valley’s Snowpark Amphitheater. This summer’s concert features special guest vocalist Capathia Jenkins, who will perform “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America,” “Amazing Grace” and more. Visit deervalleymusicfestival.org for details and tickets.

The beloved fighter-jet flyover with aircraft from nearby Hill Air Force Base will take place on Saturday, July 3, at a time still TBD. Plan to spend your afternoon/evening at Canyons Village for a celebration that includes complimentary, family-friendly activities featuring live art activations by local artist Anna Leigh Moore and AD Allegretti from 4-9 p.m. and live ice-carving demonstrations by Iceworks at 6 p.m. Memphis McCool takes the stage at 4 p.m. followed by Jake & The Heist at 7 p.m.

The official Fourth of July holiday happily falls on Sunday this year, and that means the Park Silly Sunday Market will be in full swing to celebrate! It’s also “pedestrian day” all day on Main Street, so look for Main Street restaurants and retailers to also get in on the action. Hippie funk band Dangus Kong kicks off music on the Silly Market Main stage at 11 a.m. followed by Nashville recording artist Carver Louis at 2 p.m.

Please note that due to direction from the Park City Fire District and Summit County Fire Warden, Park City Mountain will not be hosting a fireworks display this year. Visit parkcitymountain.com for complete details.
