With playgrounds and classrooms back in full swing, schools have been on our minds. Park City’s public school system has long been hailed as one of the best in the state, and for good reason. On the meta-data level, our stats on dual-language immersion, scholastic achievement, graduation rate, and college entry are outstanding. On micro-data level, i.e. what parents and students are saying about our public school system is even more impressive. In addition, the number of exceptional alternatives to public school Park City offers is equally remarkable. This means parents have many options when it comes to choosing what’s best for their own child.

Another Way School, K-8: Another Way provides a strong academic curriculum coupled with the Native American traditions of honoring Nature.  With a maximum enrollment of 25 students, equestrianship, winter sports, yoga and Spanish are integrated into the curriculum. Multi-age classrooms strengthen Another Way’s aspiration of students acquiring knowledge through their own activity and exploration within the caring community of their classmates.

Little Miners Montessori School, K-8: Little Miners is situated around a quite neighborhood surrounded by pastures and farm animals. Their goal is to help children develop a positive self-image, a sense of responsibility in diverse settings, and inner self-discipline. The philosophy is based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, which seeks to educate the whole child in a family-oriented and child-centered environment.

Park City Independent, 6-12: Park City Independent is a fully accredited, entirely online middle and high school. There are many reasons why a student may be best served by the flexibility and autonomy of the online environment.. Park City Independent has the added benefit of teachers available to answer student’s questions.

Park City Day School, K-8: PCDS’s motto is: Small community, big education, infinite possibilities. Their goal is to inspire students to live great and giving lives. They accomplish this by focusing on seven facets of their learning environment: individual, authentic, collaborative, values-driven, dynamic, innovative, and connected.

Soaring Wings International Montessori School, K-8: Soaring Wings strives to let your child know he or she is an important member of their school community: whose growth as a well-rounded human being is a responsibility we take very seriously. With that responsibility in mind we have chosen to practice the Montessori Method in its purest form, and teach our students those values which are fundamental to Montessori education, including: the pursuit of independence and self-mastery, respect for oneself and others, empathy, kindness, a love of work and a passion for life-long learning.

Weilenmann School of Discovery, K-8: Since opening its doors in 2010, Weilenmann School has grown by leaps and bounds. Now serving nearly 600 students, the School has maintained its founding principle of providing individualized learning delivered by Master Teachers in a close-knit community. Small groups of students work together to discover their passions and talents in STEM courses as well as art, music, and outdoor education. Field trips and special events round out exceptional in-class instruction.

Winter Sports School, grades 9-12: Park City’s Winter Sports School is specifically designed to serve young athletes who compete at an elite level. Obviously, winter sports are something nearly every Parkite enjoys, and sometimes one of our kids shows exceptional talent and potential. Competing in international competitions AND attending regular high school is a set-up for failure in one or both. To solve this problem, the Winter Sports School closes during the winter and stays in session during the summer.  The Winter Sports School develops students with a passion for learning and excellence, in both academics and winter athletics. There is no better secondary school in the United States—perhaps the world—for student athletes to reach beyond their limits in all aspects of life than The Winter Sports School.

All of us at Chin-MacQuoid-Fleming-Harris celebrate the enormous number of unique opportunities children have growing up in Park City. Our public schools are fantastic, and so are the many non-public educational options. What we love most is that parents and students have all the tools and options they need in order to make the best choice for themselves.
