Your Town Is Our Town Too: Big-D Construction

October 17th, 2017 | Park City Community

Big-D Construction was established 50 years ago as one carpenter’s dream. Dee Livingood, known to everyone as Big Dee, was 32 years old with $1,000 to his name when he founded what would become one of the most award-winning builders in America. Originating in Salt Lake City, today it has offices nationwide. Since its inception, Big-D has helped Park City grow responsibly with projects such as schools, Swaner EcoCenter, NewPark, the local hospital expansion, and custom residential. They’ve never had to chase success, but success chases them everywhere they expand to. That’s because each job is approached with Dee’s original commitment to personal responsibility and integrity. Even though the founder has passed on, the team who continues to strengthen Big-D Construction stands on his legacy of simply doing the right thing every time.

Big-D opened a permanent office in Park City two years ago. 70% of the 50 full-time employees are also members of our community. They live and raise their families here, and they love Park City for the same reasons we do. Their approach to projects reflects the PC values: community, ecology, beauty, and welcoming of diversity. A perfect example of this is Swaner EcoCenter: a beautiful building that takes full advantage of the views of the nature preserve and mountains while achieving the difficult LEAD eco-friendly specifications. The Big-D crews regarded every square-foot of the project as their personal contribution to excellence.

The Big-D Park City office is the anchor for their Signature group, which specializes in mountain resort construction for both residential and commercial. They are experts in not only the severe weather and terrain demands, but also the high aesthetic expectations of Parkites. Every neighborhood in the area includes homes built by Big-D, evidence of their commitment to having wide-ranging diversity in their portfolio. While their construction techniques are consistently the best in the industry, each and every end product is unique according to their customer’s vision. “That’s the magic Big-D brings,” said Lori Shumacher. “Their projects are impeccably built and stand for generations, but they were originally someone’s dream and Big-D turned them into a reality.” Big-D recently completed 35 jaw-dropping single-family cabins at Victory Ranch offered at  $1.5M – $2M, as well as the new lodge in this exclusive development. Currently, they are putting the finishing touches on the new clubhouse for Park Meadows Country Club, with is spectacular! In the near future, guests will be able to stay at the acclaimed Blue Sky Utah in a luxury hotel Big-D is working to make as magnificent as Blue Sky’s great outdoors.

The Park City office of Big-D is committed to being an integral contributor to the community where they live and work. They support the National Ability Center in all its events through contributions of time and money. Nearly all of PC’s nonprofits have benefited from donations made by the local office. “This is where we live, work, and play. Park City is our town too,” said Mike Kerby, Sr. VP of the Big-D Signature group. “We make every effort to ensure that all who live in Park City will continue to enjoy everything that makes this place extraordinary.”
