Grow your collection virtually at Winter Arts Showcase

Supporting local Park City artists has always generated the support of our community, and this year’s Winter Arts Showcase, a virtual exhibit event hosted by the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County, is no exception.

While this annual showcase has traditionally been hosted during the Presidents’ Day holiday at the Park City Community Church, this year’s event has expanded to run a full two weeks and will run online through Feb. 28 at the Arts Council’s e-commerce art sales website, createpc.org.

To curate this 14-day show, the Arts Council partnered with the Park City Professional Artists Association to feature the artwork and handcrafted artisanal goods of local artists, all of whom are either Summit County residents or members of the PCPAA.

“It’s a priority for the Arts Council to provide avenues to support our local artists, which is why we moved forward with a new virtual model this year,” said Jocelyn Scudder, Arts Council executive director. “While it won’t have the same energy as being at an in-person art show, displaying artwork for sale online through our e-commerce platform, createpc.org, will make it easier than ever to discover local artists and buy their work.”

The Winter Arts Showcase provides a unique opportunity for patrons across the country to support Utah artists as well as grow their personal collections. The two-week online event

features 38 local artists selling their works, which include paintings, photographs, jewelry, ceramics, fabric, textiles and sculpture. Patrons can buy unique art online directly from the artists and either pick up or have items shipped directly to them.

Scudder notes the e-commerce website, launched last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been able to help fill the void created when they had to shutter their brick-and-mortar space, the BrandPC pop-up store, located on Main Street. The BrandPC shop, located in Historic Old Town at 544 Main St., is open for limited hours Monday-Sunday (visit https://www.brandedpc.org for details).

“We have been able to utilize the createpc.org website all year for virtual shows as a way to keep artists visible,” Scudder said. “Since many festivals and other outlets that artists rely on have been canceled this year, (the site) had allowed us to support the artists during this challenging time.”

The Arts Council put out the call in January for artist submissions, which were chosen via jury selection to participate in the exhibit. While the selected artists did pay a nominal registration fee to participate, they will retain 100 percent of the sales.

The artists themselves were able to choose up to to 10 products on the showcase website, and each artist has their own page featuring their chosen work, a photo of themselves, a short biography and links to their own official websites and social media handles.
