Seeing all Seven Wonders of the World is a great bucket-list goal. However, we at Chin, Fleming, Harris are here to tell you there needs to be an eighth: the Soldier Hollow Sheep Dog Classic. On August 30th– September 2nd, at the site of the 2002 Olympic Nordic Skiing events, you are invited to witness world-class sheep dogs at work, and it will take your breath away! It will open your eyes to a world you thought you knew about, but being there to witness the live action will leave you gob-smacked. You may even begin to believe in mental telepathy again.
Since 2003, the Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship has been an exhilarating exhibition of the human-canine bond, luring thousands of spectators annually to Midway to watch these dogs and handlers in action. A whistle, finger-point, tilt of the head – just about any signal from the trainer – sends a dog zooming across fields to herd sheep with expertise no mere human can come close to. Like all professional athletes, these canines are born with talent and brains. However, their handlers spend years training them to keep one eye on them, and one eye on the herd. It is a wonder to behold.
Watching the dogs in action is only one reason to spend a day visiting Midway, just 30 minutes from Park City. This event is family friendly and offers so many things to do and see. In addition to the sheepdog trial, this year’s planned schedule includes:

Delicious food, animal shows, unique vendors, activities and more await you and your family! Spectator’s dogs are not allowed, but your Fido couldn’t take the hit to his/her self-esteem anyway. Ticket prices are less than $15/person, and family passes are available for under $50. Parents: this is the best chance you will ever have to demonstrate to your kids what you mean by “mind me,” and your children will actually love every minute of it!
