The dog days of summer are definitely upon us, and here at Chin|MacQuoid|Fleming|Harris, we love to beat the heat by indulging in one of our favorite cold beverages: the smoothie.

Believe it or not, the “smoothie” is about to celebrate its 100th birthday, thanks to the invention of the blender back in 1922. But the beloved beverage has moved far beyond blended fruit. Today’s choices pack a punch – from added protein and seeds to spirulina, bee pollen and CBD – readily customizable to your needs as well as your taste.

We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite offerings from local Park City shops, restaurants and markets, so you, too, can cool off at a moment’s notice:

For just $4, add 20mg of CBD to your choice of one of five 16-oz. smoothie options at Atticus Coffee & Teahouse (738 Main St.). Co-owner Ericah Winzeler says its anti-inflammatory benefits are great post-hike or ride, particularly in the popular “The Tree of Life,” a mix of avocado, pineapple juice, organic kale, spinach and kiwi topped with a sprinkle of hemp seeds.

If organic is your jam, head to Fairweather Foods (1270 Iron Horse Dr.) and choose from one of six 20-oz. options that boast no added sugar and no ice. Owner Jen Rattray recommends her personal creation, the “Funky Monkey” – a blend of unsweetened organic almond milk, peanut butter, banana, cacao powder and chocolate plant protein.

Summertime is the only time to get Harvest Park City’s (820 Park Ave.) special 16-oz. peach smoothie made with local organic produce, but its power-boost option (frozen banana, espresso, hemp seeds, almond butter and almond milk) is a favorite all year long.

Looking for something even lighter? Try one of Land Juicery’s (509 Main St., upper level; and 1500 Snow Creek Dr., inside The Market) wellness shots or cold-pressed juices – the classic all-green juice, brightened with lemon and ginger is a popular pick! –  made with organic produce and nutrient-dense superfoods.

For an immunity booster, try the 16-oz. “Tropical Gold” at I Love Moo (1634 Uinta Way), a combination of mango, banana, camu berries, lucuma, coconut milk and orange juice that boasts 400 times the vitamin C of an orange! I Love Moo smoothies are made with a proprietary “health cube” that infuses vitamins and antioxidants without changing the flavor.

Finish your workout with a “Protein Shakeout” at The Protein Foundry (1784 Uintah Way). Available in 16- and 24-oz. sizes with an extensive selection of add-ins, try the “Blooming Pitaya,” made with show-stopping dragon fruit, strawberries, blueberries, banana, kale, vanilla protein and coconut water. TPF offers options for dietary restrictions including plant-based protein and gluten-free oats.
