What’s Cookin’ Good Lookin’?

January 10th, 2017 | Park City Community

Parkites love excellence anywhere they find it – snow and food being at the top of their list. So far this season, the snow has spoken for itself and needs no elaboration from us (the best in the world, right?). But, last week we found three relatively new eateries worth shouting about tucked in out-of-the-way corners. We welcome Freshies, Momo Haiku, and Ritual Chocolate as bonafide members of Park City’s long list of incredible places to eat.

Freshies: 1897 PROSPECTOR AVE
Owners Ben and Lorin Smaha are serious about their slogan Shore To Door in 24. Everything from their lobster to their rolls is shipped to them fresh every day.  You may have been lucky enough to caught their New England fair from their catering truck over the past seven years. Now that they’ve opened their first permanent location you can sit down out of the cold to savor flavors rarely found outside of the northeastern part of the country. Mounds of fresh lobster meat on a toasted bun that’s drizzled in butter and mayo will make any other sandwich you’ve ever tasted seem second rate. Their New England Clam Chowder is made with real cream and packed with clams and potatoes for a meal that will keep you going all day. Their salads are fresh and crisp with super-food ingredients like blueberries and pecans. If you have non-seafood types in your group, the barbeque chicken sandwich or old-fashioned hotdog will leave a smile on their face. “I love seafood,” said Dena Fleming. “Normally I brace myself for the big ticket that usually accompanies fresh lobster, but $20 is all I need at Freshies for a meal I’ll tell my friends about!” freshieslobsterco.com

Momo Haiku: 1890 Bonanza Dr

Momo Haiku has taken the foodie term Asian Fusion to a whole new level. Offering what is hands down the best Asian noodle and steamed bun dishes in Park City, you can also order chicken wings, Banhi Mi, or a Wok creation designed by you! “With extraordinary flavors at around $10 per person, you cannot find a better quick meal spot in all of Park City,” said Steve Chin. “You have GOT to try a pork-belly steamed bun … it’s so delicious and soft and … OK, I’m leaving right now to go get one.” American twists can be found in every section of the menu (sushi pizza?), but authentic noodle dishes are a specialty. Soba or gluten-free Udon are served fresh and steaming with topping options such as Maple-Dijon Pork, Chili Beef, or Ginger Chicken. Their Dam son! fried rice is a meal in itself and their Lettuce Wraps have people lining up. momohaikufacebook.com

Ritual Chocolate: 1105 Iron Horse Drive
Robbie Stout and Anna Davies set out to do the impossible: to create a chocolate that is so fine, so pure, so unbelievably perfect in every way that it would survive as a business on its reputation alone. “I’m here to tell you,” said Ann MacQuoid, “they’ve succeeded in every way. They could make it on what I alone buy!” After you’ve enjoyed a traditional Parkite lunch of organic free range sprouts served on a bed of quinoa grown by virgins in South America, stop by Ritual Chocolate to find a whole new meaning of the phrase “natural food.” Handcrafted small-batch chocolate created on location with nothing but the finest, most exotic ingredients. Cacao beans from Ecuador, Madagascar, Peru, and Ethiopia provide an unmatched variety of flavors ranging from hints of blueberry to toasted nuts. These are bars of pure heaven, each distinct in their flavor but equal in their rich, deep, dark-chocolate bliss. Taste testing in their cozy café with a cup of espresso is encouraged. If fact, it’s become a local’s weekend morning hangout with plenty of conversation and relaxation. ritualchocolate.com
