What’s New in Kimball Junction?

February 12th, 2019 | Park City Community

There’s only one thing we know of that Parkites love more than skiing, and that’s eating great food! We’ve all watched how Kimball Junction has grown by leaps and bounds over the past five years, and we’re excited to introduce you to three new eateries that have recently opened there. We at Chin-MacQuoid-Fleming-Harris consider it our civic duty to try new restaurants, and then tell you our favorite dishes.

Hearth & Hill

Brooks Kirchheimer has paid his dues in the restaurant business, first earning his degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2008, and then managing a number of popular restaurants all over the country. In 2017 Brooks and his wife, Catherine, returned home to Park City, ready to pursue his lifelong dream of starting his own restaurant: Hearth & Hill, located in Kimball Junction. The menu is evidence of Kirchheimer’s eclectic restaurant experiences, offering everything from gnocchi to Korean fried chicken. Our favorites are the chilled soba noodle salad (cabbage, radish, carrot, chicken, snap pea, peanut chile dressing) and the short rib & oxtail quesadilla (yam, black bean, hominy, sunchoke escabeche, chèvre). The interior design is sleek and modern, but maintains a social warmth that makes everyone relax. We wish Brooks and Catherine the very best in their new venture, and look forward to seeing them often for lunch!

Thai So Good

Sometimes, only a big bowl of steaming Thai food will cure the wintertime blues, and Thai So Good serves some of the best Thai you’ll find anywhere. In addition to all the standard curries and Pad Thai, the menu sneaks in some pleasant surprises. For example, Crying Tiger is a hefty slice of grilled rib eye served with a spicy roasted rice and tamarind sauce and grilled asparagus. Their Cashew Nut stir-fry is a rich combination of toasted cashews, carrots, onions, and roasted chilies that you can add any protein to. We knew this place was going to be authentic because their website is clearly written by someone who learned English as a second language, and we were not disappointed! When the skies are grey and the storm to strong for skiing to be enjoyable, you’ll find us at Thai So Good!

11Hauz

What do they eat in Jamaica? We didn’t know either, until 11Hauz opened. Now Jamaican food is one of our favorites! Raised in a family of 11, Sheron Grant learned authentic Jamaican cooking from her mother, who was a professional chef. Armed with her mother’s recipes, Sharon and her husband, Errol, have brought this distinctive fare to Park City. Their menu is divided into Finga Tings, Green Tings, and Full Yuh Belly things. This is the place for food explorers looking to discover previously unknown flavors. So far, the Jerk Chicken (moist grilled chicken bursting with traditional island flavors of pimento, garlic, ginger, and scotch bonnet pepper)and Rasta Pasta (penne pasta served in a velvety, coconut-parmesan cream sauce with sautéed broccoli and bell peppers, with blended flavors of basil & garlic) are leading the pack on our office favorites list. However, we’re dedicated to trying the pastry-pockets and grilled plantains before we determine the final winners.

Kimball Junction has quickly grown into a new restaurant hub for Park City. More new eateries are slated to open this summer, so keep you eyes and tummy on the lookout for more creative cuisines. We at Chin-MacQuoid-Fleming-Harris wish all new business owners in the area the very best and look forward to enjoying everything new and delicious!
