Let it snow! Fresh-powdered December on tap in Park City

December 14th, 2021 | Park City Community

With Utah’s first official “powder day” under our belts and another mid-December snowstorm on the horizon, it’s easy to get in some early season turns at the resorts as well as a few kick-and-glide laps around your favorite cross-country skiing trails. Whether your jam is chasing hidden stashes of fresh snow, cruising pristine corduroy or skate skiing on Park City’s postcard-worthy tracks, you’ll find a variety of terrain that’s just waiting to be explored. Ten Utah resorts are currently open, including Park City MountainDeer Valley Resort and Woodward Park City, and two more – Eagle Point and Sundance – will open this week. Park City boasts 10 lifts running and 14 trails open with more than 20 inches of snow expected over the next five days. Deer Valley expects a comparable snow accumulation, with eight lifts open and nine trails currently available. At Woodward Park City, the tubing hill is open as is Woodward’s Mountain Park system featuring learning zones, progression parks and performance venues.

For Nordic enthusiasts, White Pine Touring Nordic Center is open with more than 20K of groomed skate and classic terrain, while Soldier Hollow Nordic Center kicks off its season this Friday, Dec. 17, with a free ski day from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Ski passes are free, and so is equipment to borrow while supplies last. Soldier Hollow guests can also ski for free on Jan. 17 and Feb. 4, which will commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and celebrate the start of the 2022 Beijing Winter Games. Summit County’s Nordic Trail System will feature nearly 80 kilometers of groomed trails for fat-tire bikes, snowshoeing and winter trail running as well. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
