Tiger Woods announces first championship mountain design at Park City’s Marcella Club

February 23rd, 2023 | Resorts

Tiger Woods draws attention with nearly every move he makes and that means a whole new audience turning its eyes on Utah following the 15-time major champion’s announcement of his newest design project, an 18-hole golf course at Marcella Club in Park City.

The Marcella Club course, located at Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge, will mark Tiger’s fourth 18-hole original design with his company, TGR Designs, and his first in the Mountain West. Other Woods’ designs include Bluejack National in Houston, Tex., El Cardonal at Diamante in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Payne’s Valley in Hollister, Missouri. His design team also has created short courses at The Hay at Pebble Beach, The Playground at Jack’s Bay Club in the Bahamas and Oasis Short Course at Diamante.

“This location is uniquely beautiful, and the course will offer engaging play for every ability,” Woods wrote in a social media post announcing the project in early February. “My intent is to create a world-class golf experience to pair with Marcella Club’s vision for modern luxury living.”

A rendering of the future course, which is adjacent to Deer Valley Resort in the new Mayflower Mountain Resort, shows a par-72 layout that stretches more than 8,000 yards from the back tees. Some monster holes include the par-5 No. 10, which measures 702 yards, and the par-3 15th hole, listed at 292 yards. But never fear, golfers! To balance it out are two par 4s that will play less than 400 yards from the championship tees (Nos. 12 and 17),and a par 3 that will max out at 150 yards (No. 3).

“I couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Marcella Club to design and create a new championship golf course just outside Park City,” Woods added in a press release. “Utah is an incredible place, with favorable year-round weather that offers opportunities to be active outdoors throughout all four seasons — golfing, skiing, biking, hiking and fishing — the list goes on and on. I’m thrilled to be designing a course in such a special location; this new course is uniquely beautiful and will offer engaging play for every ability.”

The Tiger-designed track will be one of two 18-hole golf courses planned for Marcella Club, with the second course slated to be built after the TGR Design is completed. Construction on Marcella Club is scheduled to begin in 2024, and the course is anticipated to open in 2025. The designer of the second 18-hole course will be announced at a later date.
