It’s a well-known fact that Deer Valley is a premier luxury ski destination. When it was created, it revolutionized the ski resort industry and created a framework for what many other resorts would try to emulate.
But there’s only one Deer Valley. And as locals, we’re lucky to have it right in our backyard. They say the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and in Deer Valley, that is particularly true. It’s not just one thing that makes it so special; it’s everything together.
But beyond the luxurious hotels, beautiful mountain range, and fantastic amenities, there are a few seemingly small things that have a big impact on why we love Deer Valley.
Here’s 5 of them.
1. You Can Check Your Skis
At Deer Valley, you have the option to check your skis at the base at no extra cost. And with no exclusive club membership required, it’s a service open to anyone who skis there. Just like a traditional coat check, you simply drop your skis off at the base, get a little ticket, and then present the ticket when you return to collect them. The best part? It’s not only limited to one day; you can check your skis for up to seven days with this service.
There’s too much to say about why we love Deer Valley in one post. If you’re thinking about buying a home in Deer Valley, check out these posts next to learn more about the area:

2. Lunch is Served
A brown bag lunch simply won’t do when skiing at a resort like Deer Valley. In that case, it’s a good thing there are so many lunch and aprés spots to choose from. Whether you’re enjoying the famous turkey chilli at the mid-mountain Royal Street Café or more opulent offerings at the Stein Eriksen Lodge, there are options to satisfy any craving and properly fuel your afternoon. For a quick bite at the base of the mountain, try the Deer Valley Grocery Café. With so many great options, you really can’t go wrong no matter where you go.

3. We Have the Best Snow, and We Know What to Do With It
Park City and Deer Valley are known for having “The Greatest Snow on Earth” thanks to something called the Lake Effect. Essentially, warm, moist, and salty air from the Great Salt Lake mixes with incoming cool air over the Wasatch mountains, resulting in heavy snowfall and snow that is heavy and fluffy—the perfect consistency for skiing.
But simply having great snow isn’t enough to make a world-class ski destination. You have to know what to do with it! Luckily, this is also something Deer Valley excels at. The area is known for its distinct corduroy grooming, named after the fabric. When freshly groomed, the ridges create a fast and smooth skiing experience that can be enjoyed by beginners and intermediate skiers alike.
Additionally, Deer Valley has impressively long runs, with some ski runs clocking in at almost 5 miles long! It means more time spent going down!
And if you’re looking for a guide to all this amazing fresh powder, there’s the Deer Valley Mountain Host Tours. These complimentary guided tours are offered all throughout ski season, giving guests an inside look at Deer Valley’s history, terrain, and even some secret powder stashes!

4. Kleenex at Each Lift Line
If you know, you know. Spending any time outside in the winter, particularly doing any kind of physical activity, often results in a runny nose and watering eyes. This is especially true when you’re flying down any one of the amazing, almost 5-mile-long runs at Deer Valley. Many seasoned skiers know to put a few tissues in their pockets before heading out, but it’s not necessary here. Deer Valley offers Kleenex at each lift line! It’s a little luxury that makes a big difference.
5. Limited Ticket Access
As an exclusive, luxury ski resort, Deer Valley limits the number of daily lift passes. As a result, skiing at Deer Valley never feels chaotic or jam-packed with skiers. But more than that, it means the parking lot is usually a lot easier to navigate. Nothing is worse than packing up your skis, driving to the hill, and then having to do laps to find a parking space. At Deer Valley, everything feels elevated, even the parking lot.
