Park City’s ski season is officially in high gear. All the resorts are reporting fantastic snow and runs, so we’re all heading for the hills this week. At Chin-MacQuoid-Fleming-Harris, everyone is showing up with their ski gear in their trunk, ready for a magical hour or two of skiing that can be stolen from the workday. The only thing that can get in the way of us hitting the slopes in full zeal is hunger. We need food that’s easy, quick, and delicious. To that end, we’d like to share with you our favorite restaurants that offer food that’s fast, but is not fast food, if you get our drift.
Stay close to the runs.
Tucked away in the heart of the Deer Valley neighborhood is the Deer Valley Grocery Cafe. This hidden gem of PC serves the high quality cuisine that Deer Valley is world famous for. The keep their grab & go selection well stocked with a wide variety of soups, salads, and quiches. If you have the time, order one of the specialty sandwiches to go … but, we warn you that you’ll probably end up sitting their parking lot and eating it in your car because you won’t be able to wait. Their grilled cheese and mushroom sandwich is the stuff culinary dreams are made of and will keep you on the slopes until dinnertime!
Healthy on the fly.
Fairweather Natural Foods is a health food store that’s all about whole, organic foods. Tiny and personal, they have a café slipped into one corner. The vegan sandwiches, soups, and fresh juices are as good for you as they are delicious. If you’re on the run, check out their cooler in the front that’s stocked with hearty sandwiches and healthy snacks.
When only Mexican food will do.
If you want to find quick, inexpensive, and authentic Mexican food in Park City, there are really only two places look: Sergio’s or Anaya’s. Sergio’sis tucked in near the movie theaters in Old Town. It’s packed during the lunch and dinner hours, so we suggest ordering takeout during these times. Their Carne Asada Sopes are to die for – just one makes a great meal. Priced at just $3.50 each, it’s also the best lunch deal anywhere. In the back of Anaya’s Mexican Market is a tiny taco bar with a line out the door every day at lunch, so we suggest going before 11:30 or after 1:30. Slow roasted meats and handmade tortillas are stacked on paper plates and passed to you pronto. These are tacos like you haven’t tasted since you were south of the border. Don’t call, don’t look for their website, just go. 1490 Munchkin Rd. – it’s right in the middle of town, but map it on your smart phone or you’ll never find it.
There’s no place like home.
