Empire State of mind: Earn your turns with a ride at 9,000 feet

August 30th, 2022 | Park City Community

High above historic Park City, towering pine trees and lush mountain meadows are crisscrossed with miles of trails still waiting to be explored by you this summer! Need additional encouragement? Chin|MacQuoid|Fleming|Harris team member Jacquelyn Harris Grayson takes us to this sky-high paradise at 9,000 feet, where she pedals her way to this can’t-miss mountain-biking destination. “You have to earn your turns up here – there’s no lift service to the top,” says Grayson while showcasing the stunning 360-degree views from 9K Trail, located at Empire Pass in Deer Valley. “It’s August and the wildflowers are still exploding, so the scenery is just as good as it gets.” As the name suggests, the 9K Trail is approximately 9 kilometers long – about 5.5 miles – and roughly follows the 9,000-foot-elevation contour line from Empire Pass west to Shadow Lake at Park City Mountain, where it connects to the Blazing Saddle Trail. If that’s not enough of a challenge, extend your adventure further with a ride on the iconic Wasatch Crest Trail, which runs along the high mountain ridge between Big Cottonwood Canyon and Park City, and descends via Mill Creek Canyon. This epic ride features several options to choose your own adventure, including multiple access points, shuttle options and various degrees of difficulty. But be ready, warns Harris Grayson, “If you ride the whole thing, you’re in for it.” We’re sure she means that in the best way possible!
