E-Biking in Park City

E-biking can sometimes be a contentious topic in Park City. Talking about them is sometimes akin to bringing up politics at the dinner table!

On the one hand, it’s great to make more trails accessible. However, on the other hand, it could lead to inexperienced riders riding above their abilities, resulting in dangerous situations.

Additionally, since e-bikes can move much faster than traditional leg-powered bikes, they could sometimes cause incidents or disagreements on the trails.

In Park City, our municipal code prohibits e-bike use on single-track trails except for mountain bikers aged 65+ or those with mobility issues. If you plan on riding an e-bike in Park City, it’s important to be aware of the rules.

In addition to that, it’s critical that everyone using the networks respect common trail etiquette. You can learn more about Park City trail etiquette here.

Notable Trails in Park City

While there are certainly more trails than we could mention in one post, here are two of our favorites:

  • Round Valley – With 2,100 acres and over 50 miles of high-desert trails, Round Valley is a popular spot for families. Featuring beginner-friendly green trails to more intermediate blues, this network is open year-round for mountain biking, hiking, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking.
  • Union Pacific Rail Trail – This historic 28-mile trail features primarily gravel sections with a few paved parts. As it follows the route of the old railway, the terrain is relatively flat and straight. However, it does weave through several nearby towns and connects to the Jordanelle, making it the perfect day tour if you like your outdoor recreation with a dose of history!
